Hey! I’m Zack Gober. I am a 22-year-old finance professional. I graduated from Harvard in May 2011 and I love two things: running and food. I’ve struggled to find a balance between these two passions for years, having been overweight virtually my entire life and yet achieving some pretty fantastic running goals, like running a half-marathon (13.1 miles) at 8 minute mile pace last October, when up until a year or two ago, running 3 miles at that pace was physically impossible for me.
My hope for this blog is to share my passions for running and food with all of you, the readers, as I attempt to achieve two goals. My first (medium-term) goal is to weigh 185 pounds at a height of 6’2”, which is a weight that I have not seen since middle school, when I was considerably shorter than I am today. My second goal is to run a half-marathon in an hour and a half, which is faster than 7:00/mile pace.
You’ll read about runs that I love, runs that feel awful, and runs that keep me moving on a day-to-day basis. You’ll hear about the love that I find in a bowl of lettuce, carrots, and balsamic vinegar. I’ll tell you why it’s smarter to have that piece of chicken when everyone’s going for the steak. But I’ll also tell you how a bone-in Delmonico steak can move me emotionally, and how it can take every ounce of my being not to have a piece of carrot cake that’s staring me in the face. You’ll read about the day-to-day of trying to lose weight and get in shape by running and eating sensibly. You’ll read about running and fitness-related products I like, and ones that I don’t like as much.
I also have recently begun to follow the teachings of Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint program (www.marksdailyapple.com and www.primalblueprint.com) with great results, so expect some posts about that as well.
